The Afternoon Auxiliary is one of two Auxiliaries that support the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops BC. Our Auxiliary has many volunteer positions from service opportunties to raising funds. Check out the the "Volunteer Areas" section for details and a link to the Evening Auxiliary page.
The Afternoon Auxiliary is over one hundred years old and has a membership six times larger than when it first started back in 1899. In May of 1899, the Directors of the Hospital requested a public meeting of the ladies of Kamloops for the purpose of organizing a ladies' auxiliary to the hospital. The meeting led to the formation of the Afternoon Auxiliary on November 11, 1899, when 34 ladies of"good character" met to discuss hospital affairs and determine how best to aid the Board of Directors. Since then, we have grown to approximately 215 members for the year 2008.
Our mission is to provide patient care equipment for Royal Inland Hospital. We do this through our fund raising. Each year we donate $100,000 to the RIH Foundation for purchasing equipment on our behalf.
Other objectives of our Society are to act as public relations representatives and goodwill ambassadors for the Hospital within the community. This is accomplished by the many service volunteer positions available through our organization. which enhance the quality of the experience of the RIH patients, their families and visitors by providing direction, support and assistance.
A special thank you to On Call Internet Services Kamloops,BC. for their support.
