The Evening Auxiliary was formed in 1962 by a group of women who were interested in raising funds for their hospital, but were
unable, due to family or work commitments, to participate in the daytime activities of the already existing Afternoon Auxiliary.
From 20 ladies raising $1,500 in 1962 the membership has fluctuated over the years from 55 members to the present longstanding
25 members who volunteer an average of 7,000 hours annually.
Over the years the members have tried their hand at many different and interesting fundraising projects, and as times and interests
change, so do the fund raising activities. Bingo is a major fund-raiser, but it is the Annual Craft-A-Fair which
the Auxiliary is renowned for.
The Auxiliary also runs a RIH Employee Payroll Deduction Lottery. Our various lucrative
contracts guarantee a regular income and services within the Hospital. Television rentals, Newborn Baby Photos and Vending Machines
are all available thanks to the Evening Auxiliary. The Auxiliary's latest project is a Coffee Kiosk located on the second floor at
the new back entrance of the Royal Inland Hospital.
If it were not for the financial support of the Evening Auxiliary, many pieces of hi-tech equipment and specialized services would
not be available at R.I.H.
Our community contributions include three busaries to Thompson Rivers University, two bursaries
to School District # 73 for a grade 12 student, and support for the Kamloops Hospice Association. To date, 2008, the Evening Auxiliary
has donated over $3 million to Royal Inland Hospital.
Meetings are held the first Wednesday evening of the month, September through June.
Although busy with their fund-raising activities,
the members believe in fun. Social events such as wake-up breakfasts, lunches, pot-luck dinner meetings, progressive dinners, BBQ's,
bowling, and card nights are held. The Evening Auxiliary's reputation for having fun has earned them the title of "The Ladies of the
Night"!!
If interested in joining our group, contact the Auxiliary Office at 250-314-2331 and leave a message. Someone will get back to you.
"To promote the excellent quality of care given by Royal Inland Hospital and to enhance patient care and comfort."
